What was the sustainability issue that AmmoHive wanted to make?
Our client, AmmoHive.co.uk is a supplier for Airsoft & outdoor clothing and equipment. This store has a good user community and sells hundreds of different products.
As an Airsoft player, the site owner was aware of just how many small 6mm plastic pellets, called BBs, were fired each time people went to play this game. It was sometimes thousands of rounds per person per day.
A BB Usage Calculator was created
Following this discussion, we created a simple calculator to help players understand the volume of plastic that was being distributed into the woodlands where these games are played. Many of the BBs are now biodegradable but not all, and nevertheless the plastic does still take some time to disappear.

Awareness at the point of sale – with ecologi.com
Following the BB calculator idea, we further explored the idea of promoting sustainable practices for playing Airsoft. We developed a custom plugin for the WooCommerce store so that on the product pages when users are buying the BB products, it shows an option to offset the plastic pollution by planting trees into a global ecology project. Ticking this box add an additional “tree planting” product to the customers shopping basket which costs 60p, and this idea has been very well received by players and it is a small price to make them feel better about their environmental impact.
